Castledon School

Homepage Welcome Message

At Castledon School and College our passion is to see all pupils reach their potential by working on the attributes necessary to lead as independent and fulfilled a life as possible. Our school motto ‘learn to live’ is at the core of everything that we do.

We provide a personalised approach to learning, supporting each pupil by providing an extensive range of programmes and interventions both on and off site alongside smaller classes. Whilst all pupils need to be able to access their learning without the support of an adult, the pupils are given resources and equipped with the strategies they need to support the vision that all pupils will be given the skills for independent living and employment in adulthood. This vision is extended further within the college under the motto ‘unlocking potential for adulthood’.

We are very proud of our school and college with a dedicated team that help meet the differing needs of every young person at Castledon. As an academy we offer provision to pupils from year 1 to year 11 within our school site and year 12 to 14 within our college. All pupils need an EHC plan to be offered a place at Castledon. Pupils attend with a wide range of complex needs, these include autism and communication difficulties.

We believe that each and every one of pupils deserves a package of support that is tailored to their individual needs and aptitudes. To this end we employ therapists to work with our staff on developing programmes to assist our pupils with their communication skills, sensory needs and self-confidence. To support our pupil’s development, we believe that our curriculum needs to be as real life and practical as possible giving pupils as many off site experiences as possible. We offer courses that work towards level 1 and 2 qualifications with our most able pupils accessing an area of their curriculum at a local mainstream school. From year 7 some of our pupils’ access also outside provisions to help tailor their learning and give them exposure to areas of aptitude and interest e.g. Rally Motor Sports.

Through strong partnerships with parents and collaboration with a range of other agencies the school offers a caring and friendly learning environment in which pupils make excellent progress. We place great importance in the partnership between school and home as we believe that it is vital to have an open, honest and mutually supportive relationship with parents and carers to achieve what is best for our young people.

We are a forward thinking school that is always responsive to changing needs. As such from September 2017 Castledon extended its age range from 16 to 19 years old by establishing Castledon College which is located on a separate site.

If you are a prospective parent we would love to welcome you to a parent presentation, these are held throughout the year to meet myself and find out more about what we offer and can be booked by calling reception.
