Class Dojo for School Communication

At Castledon School and Sixth Form we use Class Dojo as our app based communication system. Class Dojo has a user-friendly interface and facilitates effective communication between teachers and parents.

Class Dojo app allows for:

  • Sharing whole-school and class-specific letters and updates

  • Regular, direct communication between teachers and parents

Benefits to Class Dojo use:

  • Provides information and snapshots to support conversations between parents/carers and their children about their learning taking place at school

  • Provides a quick point of ‘non-urgent’ contact between home and school

  • Is an easy way to send out reminders about events and activities, encouraging greater collaborative support and involvement

Sharing Learning:

  • Staff will upload pictures regularly to the class story or pupil portfolio of class learning (1-2 times per week)

  • Any uploads on the class story can only be viewed by families in the class

  • No one will be able to comment on the posts shared

How to sign up:

  • Within the first two weeks of a pupils starting Castledon parents/carers will be sent an invitation to join Class Dojo via email

  • Once the link has been received there will be a step by step guidance on how to join your child’s class

Communicating Information:

  • Staff can contact parents/carers via the messaging function – please note – this does not replace how you normally report attendance, urgent matters or concerns

  • Communication with the class team will take place via Class Dojo rather than emails

  • School staff will respond within working hours, as Class Dojo will only be installed on class devices with an expectation of a response within 48 hours

  • Staff can send out information or reminders about events or activities using the class or school story, depending on the intended audience

Data protection:

  • Minimal information is collected - the only data inputted by our school relating to your child is their name– there are no commentaries linked to these

  • Information is not shared with advertisers or marketers

  • Content is owned by the user of the account

  • Class Dojo is compliant with GDPR

  • The content on Class Dojo can only be seen by account holders, it is not public

Parental Agreement guidelines:

  • Do not use the app as a form of communicating concerns or matters that need urgent attention – this must be done in the recommended manner i.e. report to office, speak to a member of staff, phone the school

  • Conduct yourself through the messaging in a respectful manner as you would do in a face to face situation

  • Use the content on the class stories as sensitive data, this means that you must not not share it on social media or any other platform

  • Report any concerns about the use of ClassDojo to a senior leader

  • Ensure that you do not allow your children to message the teachers

  • Understand that all teachers and staff are different, and have different commitments outside of teaching time – responses are not to be expected straightaway, teachers will respond within 48 hours – remember attendance and urgent matters need phoning in correctly

  • Check your settings to adjust notifications and emails

Please contact the school if you have any questions or queries or to request access to your child’s class dojo.
